Although they are best known today for their lush, lyrically and musically profound psychedelic-era albums, The Moody Blues was one of the better R&B-based combos in the British Invasion. They spawned several studio albums including their biggest hit, A Question of Balance.

The Moody Blues were formed at Birmingham, England in 1964 by "Michael Pinder" on keyboards and vocals and "Ray Thomas" on harmonica and vocals with "Denny Laine" on guitar, "Graeme Edge" on drums, and "Clint Warwick" on bass. The group signed a management contract under London-based management company "Decca Records" which was formed by, "Alex Murray".
Their first single, "Steal Your Heart Away" was released in 1964, which became hit. Their biggest break came when they issued their second single, "Go Now" which chartered at #1 on the UK Singles Chart. The group released their debut album, The Magnificent Moodies in 1965. In 1966, Clint left the band and replaced by "Rod Clarke". In the later part of that year, Denny and Rod left the band. They were immediately replaced by Michael's former band mate in El Riot, "John Lodge" and "Justin Hayward".
Their second album, Days of Future Passed was released in 1967. The album spawned two singles, "Nights in White Satin" and "Forever Afternoon". Their third album, In Search of The Lost Chord was released in 1968. In 1969, they released their next album, On The Threshold of A Dream. To The Children's Children was released in the later part of 1969.
Their hit album, A Question of Balance was released in 1970 and landed #3 in the American Charts and #1 the British Charts. Their next two albums, Every Good Boy Deserves Favour released in 1971 and Seventh Sojourn in 1972 chartered #1 in the UK Albums Chart and US Albums Chart.
The band re-issued their single, "Nights in White Satin" in 1972 and reached #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #9 pm the UK Singles Chart. The single became the groups biggest U.S. hit which became a certified million seller.
The band took an extended break in 1973. John and Justin released a duo album, Blue Jays in 1975. Other members of the group have also released solo albums. They were reformed in 1978. They released their next album, Octave in 1978. In 1981, they released their album, Long Distance Voyager in 1981, which landed #1 on the Billboard Chart. It spawned two singles, "The Voice" and "Gemini Dream".
In 1983, they released their next album, The Present. It features the singles, "Blue World" reached #62 in the US Singles Chart and "Sitting At The Wheel". Their next album, The Other Side of Life was released in 1986 and issued the single, "Your Wildest Dreams" which chartered at #1 on the Billboard's Adult Contemporary Singles Chart for two weeks.
Their next album, Sure La Mer was released in 1988 and issued the single, "I Know You're Out There Somewhere". In 1991, their next album, Keys of The Kingdom was issued and featured two singles, "Say It With Love" and "Bless The Wings". Their next album after eight years of absence in the recording industry, Strange Times was released under Universal. Their latest album, December was released in 2003.
