About
Yanni or "Yiannis Hrysomallis" in real life was born on November 14, 1954 at Kalamata, Greece. Yanni is a champion swimmer and self-taught pianist with the gift of perfect pitch. After high school, he moved in the United States to attend college. As a student, he joined a local band named, "Chameleon" which was formed by Charlie Adams. Yanni played the keyboards. After graduating from the University of Minnesota with a B.A. in psychology, he would seek a life in music. In 1987, he went to California and formed a small band with harlie Adams and John Tesh. After forming the band, he began to tour and promote his instrumental albums, "Keys to Imagination", "Out of Silence", and "Chameleon Days".
He released his first Grammy-nominated album, Dare To Dream in 1992 which features the song "Aria". His first hit live album, Yanni Live at the Acropolis was released in 1993. It has almost continuously remained on the charts since its release, sold more than seven million copies worldwide, earned more than 35 platinum and gold albums, and risen to becoming one of the best-selling music videos of all time. In 1997, He became the first major Western artist ever to perform and record at India's Taj Mahal and China's Forbidden City. Later, it became a multi-platinum tribute. He released his next studio album, If I Could Tell You in 2000. His latest album, Ethnicity was released in 2003.
