WikiMusicGuide:Sysop Noticeboard

On small projects it is a priority for sysops to discuss incidents which may arise and solutions for dealing with them. Please discuss present concerns and work towards creating policy which includes them.

Current Sysops/Admins

Blocking of Registered Users

At present there is no policy about the blocking of registered users. I personally was caught up in a block and despite my attempts to contact sysops, I was ignored. At present there is no policy dealing with the blocking of registered users which completely defies the logic of the wiki.

Here are my proposals:

  • Clarify clearly what articles are acceptable. At the moment WMG IS NOT is too vague. It needs expanding and it needs too clearly say what will and should be excluded.
  • Deletion Policy and Speedy Deletion are apparant policies on the wiki, but are ignored. WMG does not have a policy that allows the systematic deletion of an article (although it happens). Deleting an article and then blocking its creator must never be what a wiki is about.
  • Communication with principal editors - every User page has a talk/discussion page - inform the editor that they have been blocked and explain why - not a single word like "spam" or "vandal". Wiki Music Guide has 954 registered editors and less than 50 regular editors. It would be foolish not to discuss a block.
  • Create a page that communicates to other sysops your reason for blocks. Sysops are not always available and if Admin has enpowered you with the tabs, you should explain every action "vandal" is just too much for any editor.
  • Ensure that Blocked users are able to contact you through a current email account. On wiki's blocked users need to explain or get an explaination from a Sysop.

I hope this helps start discussion. Mike33 13:37, 2 August 2007 (PDT)
