About
The White Stripes started on 1997 in Bastille Day by Jack White (guitar and vocals) and Meg White (drums). The plan was to make a simple rock & roll music. Both claim in concerts and elsewhere that they are siblings, although divorce papers that surfaced on the internet showed they were married. Jack was a guitarist of a garage band called The Go.
In their performances they dressed up in red and white outfits. In 1997, they released their debut single "Let's Shake Hands" followed by "Lafayette Blues". They signed in with an independent label named Sympathy For The Record Industry. Their self-titled debut album was released in 1999. The following year, De Stijl, was released. The White Stripes attracted the attention of the media.
In 2001, White Blood Cells was issued. The album earned great critic reviews. They took over the world with other rock and roll bands. The duo were guest on the Late Night with David Lettterman, articles were written about them in The New Yorker, Entertainment, Time and Weekly and played on the MTV Movie Awards. In 2003, Elephant, was released. The album was recorded for only two weeks in London. The single "The Death of The Sweetheart" was a hit. In 2005, The White Stripes released Get Me Behind Satan, a calmer album than the rest. In 2007, they released Icky Thump.

Reviews
When you listen to The White Stripes you would forget that they are a two-man band. Jack and Meg do a great job covering the whole track. Although, Jack is not the greatest vocalist and Meg's drumming is okay they have their charisma. The duo shows variety in their songs. They have a lot of punk and blues rock tracks in their albums. --Mimi 02:20, 12 March 2007 (PST)
