About
Village People was formed in 1977 by "Jacques Morali", a Producer and Composer. He found "Felipe Rose" dancing in his Indian costume in a crowd in NY's Greenwich Village. He saw "Victor Willis" with "Alex Briley" in Broadway Musical entitled, The Wiz. After recruiting them to join his group. Jacques held an audition for 3 performers and got "Randy Jones", "David Hodo" and "Glenn Hughes". Village People was formed.
Their self-titled debut album was released in 1977. Their next album, Macho Man was a big hit. It features the hit single, "Y.M.C.A.". Their next hit single, "In The Navy" was released in 1979. They were also featured in the cover of Rolling Stone, Vol. 289. It was also that year when Victor left the group. "Ray Simpson" replaced Victor. They released another hit single, "Can't Stop The Music" in 1980.
Other hit singles are "Go West", "San Francisco (You've Got Me) / In Hollywood (Everybody is a Star)", and "Sex Over the Phone". In 1986, they lie low for a while in the music industry. They returned the following year with "of "Randy Jones", "David Hodo", "Felipe Rose", "Glenn Hughes", "Alex Briley", and "Ray Simpson". They released another hit single, "Wildlife" in 1990. Collectively, the Village People have sold 85 million albums and singles.
