Van Hunt is a Grammy Award-winning R&B and Neo Soul singer and songwriter. Occassionally he is also a record producer.

About

Van Hunt was born on March 8, 1977 in Dayton, Ohio. He was raised by his mother while his father was a factory worker who introduced his son to Ohio drummers Jimmy Williams. Then after, he immediately became a member of the rock band Royalty playing the saxophone, drum and guitar. On 1996, he went on to Atlanta, Georgia to attend college and there to pay his tuition bills, he started to produced demos to some of the Atlanta rappers.



While continually looking for his big break he produced the song "Hopeless" for singer Dionne Farris. Farris joined the band as guitarist and keyboards. Through Farris, he met Randy Jackson on 2002 and eventually helped Hunt to be signed up by Capitol Records on 2003.



He then released his self titled debut album on 2004. The album include singles "Down Here in Hell (With You)", "Dust", and "Seconds of Pleasure", the album was nominated for a Grammy for Best Urban/Alternative Performance. His second album "On The Jungle Floor" was released on 2006. And toured with Alicia Keys, Angie Stone, and Kanye West.


More break came on 2007 where he won a Grammy for Best Performance by an R&B Duo or Group along John Legend and Joss Stone for their cover on the Sly & the Family Stone song, "Family Affair" which appeared on the 2006 Sly & the Family Stone Tribute album. Different Strokes By Different Folks.
