Ah, finally! It's just a question of putting the correct words, spaces and file names etc, isn't it! Thanks very much, I was completely baffled as to why it wasn't working. I might put another one in too. --Johnzonn 07:09, 9 February 2007 (PST)

Check out your Listening Room. Now, it's finally working. The urls were direct links :D --Jodie 06:25, 9 February 2007 (PST)

Hi Jodie Well, I've uploaded an mp3 to a different source, where I was given a url link for it, and I've edited this into my artist page, but I've tried clicking on it and I get an error message. Hmm. Not sure what to do about it. I'll work a bit more, later on. Thanks.--Johnzonn 10:08, 8 February 2007 (PST)

John, please try putting a different url for your Listening Room. Use other music sources you have aside from gardneronline. Let's see if that will solve our prob. Abby's Listening Room is fine. See the John Mayer page. Please note that instead of space, underscore is used instead in the url.Why not use switchpod, too? Let me know what the difference would be. Thanks! --Jodie 08:27, 8 February 2007 (PST)

Ey, Jodie! Got yer message and understood. Will do!--Johnzonn 08:15, 7 February 2007 (PST)

News, Tours and Concerts Updates

Ey, buddy! Please put "(5)~" after every update you put on the News and Tours and Concerts sections. (Disregard the open and close quotation and repeat ~ five times) That will generate auto-time so that readers will know when it was last updated. For other sections, no need to do the same. Thanks! --Jodie 07:08, 7 February 2007 (PST)

Wow! Yes, I have just read it. That's great, thank you. I have also been in touch with Abby about downloading mp3 samples, and have directed her to where she can do that. However, myspace.com seems to be off-air at the moment. Thanks again John--Johnzonn 02:14, 4 February 2007 (PST)

  • You're always welcome :) --jodie 02:16, 4 February 2007 (PST)

REVIEW

  • I made a review of the four songs found in your myspace. Check our the Review section in your Artist Page. :) --jodie 01:10, 4 February 2007 (PST)

Apology accepted, by the way, no worries...--Johnzonn 09:00, 2 February 2007 (PST)

Well, things are rectified now, but yes, I could have copied and pasted. As it was, I was trying to be precise and selective, rather than including things that aren't necessarily very relevant. Anyway, I think that section could be 'completed' now...I think!--Johnzonn 08:51, 2 February 2007 (PST)

  • I had the same experience on Edit Conflicts so I understand. :) Yes, finally, it looks completed. You can always update it if you want. I'm going to make a review of your songs, if I'm not so busy next time. Keep up the good work and thanks again!

--jodie 09:05, 2 February 2007 (PST)

Jodie 'Edit Conflicts' can be tiresome and assist me in losing what I have just been trying to edit. Very annoying! --Johnzonn 08:26, 2 February 2007 (PST)

Before pressing Submit button, try to Copy All (highlight all then Ctrl+C) first so that if the Edit Conflicts appear you don't lose your entries. Someone is editing your page at the time that message appears. In your case, it was me, sorry. But anyway, I have polished your John Zonn page already. Try to see your page for the changes made by another user before clicking Edit if you still want to continue your fixes. Then Paste your entries. --jodie 08:43, 2 February 2007 (PST)

Hi Jodie, thanks for all the help. It's hard work isn't it! I am bringing things more into line with the accepted format, but need to take a break now. Hope to come back to it a bit later! --Johnzonn 05:23, 2 February 2007 (PST)

  • That's alright. You're doing great actually! You're welcome.--jodie 06:50, 2 February 2007 (PST)

FIXES

John, I started some fixes in your Artist Page. These are:

  • Influences / Similar Artists --- Please separate Influences from Similar Artists. Influences are your models as an artist and who have encouraged you to pursue a career in music. They usually came from an older generation of musicians. Similar Artists are in the same genre as yours, are a younger breed of rockers, and did not really influence you to go into it. Contemporaries are same genre, same generation musicians. In these three sections please use the format I have started and make sure to group the artists accordingly. If it had gone too long, remove some and prioritize.
  • Trivia --- Make all albums, songs and artists' names internal links. Use bold for all entries you want to emphasize. As much as possible, avoid capitalization for these things.
  • Categories --- Please use this sample template from now one. If you also are into other genres, just copy one line and paste. As with metadata, please supply the missing info. This will help in your page search engine optimization.

For Don't Speak Too Soon page, I fixed the picture template; Credits (removed dashes); Trivia (changed heard to Was aired...; Reviews (made links; and Categories (just like above).

Please edit Portfolio Career album page, Hard Fruit album page and Precarious Flamingo to reflect standards as mentioned above (especially with Links and Categories. Please make sure also that the entries under LINKS Section mention about the Album. You may also repeat links from another page.

Thanks,

--jodie 04:56, 1 February 2007 (PST)

Changes

John, I have edited your Artist Page by moving your pictures, removed template contents, formatted chart and added category. Please check. Thanks! --jodie 00:29, 28 January 2007 (PST)

Hi Jodie, it looks fab, thanks.--Johnzonn 14:05, 29 January 2007 (PST)

Hi John Zonn! Welcome to WikiMusicGuide! I saw you having difficulty in coming up with a standardize page acceptable by WMG. I am here to help you. Please visit this page Artist template and Album template and make it your guide in making pages. If you have questions talk to me at User_talk:ericgo. Thanks! - Ericgo 07:43, 22 January 2007 (PST)

      • Hi Jodie, nice to meet you and thanks for your welcome message. Yes, I started up yesterday, on a recommendation from the 'Indie Bible', if I remember correctly. Anyway, so at first I thought WMG might be like other html pages/sites, like myspace - which I am familiar with - but then very quickly I discovered that WMG is more of a written/journalistic/academic resource than a publicity/networking point. This is good, as the 'face' of WMG looks more 'mature', if you like, than eg. myspace, and more serious. What I was hoping for (and what is being achieved, I think) is a space where I could leave some writing, and perhaps some graphics, about myself and the context that I work within. I have done similar activities at other sites such as 'artistdirect', 'ubl' and one or two others, with some success. One things for sure, I think WMG is quicker to edit than some other spaces, but at first I found it a little tricky, cos of the new setting that I was dealing with. Eric contacted me because he could see I was in some difficulty, but I managed to scrape my way out of it and leave a page that I was happy with at the end of my session. I'm still not quite sure what some of the boundaries are however, like am I allowed to do external links to other sites, or just within WMG? I'm happy to work within the rules of the game, and I'm sure they're written up somewhere - I probably haven't read the small print - but these are the sorts of issues that concern me at this point. I think I've said quite a lot right now, but wanted to reply to you and let you know how I felt as a 'newbie'! I'm hoping to become more well-known I guess, but as an up-and-coming artist (and writer), I'm glad to be here! Thanks John

Hi, John! Thanks a lot for your reply. Your comments are well-taken and indeed we are working hard to improve our site. WikiMusicGuide uses templates to standardize the look, to create an image that is its own. Although some wiki websites seem to look like WMG, a closer look would prove otherwise. Of course we allow you to write about yourself and post images of yours. You can do that with wiki. Just find the right section for that particular information and picture. See Artist Page Template. As with the artist page, we want you however to write with a third person type of writing. You can write informally and with the freedom to create your own page design with Your User Page. Check out mine for example at User:Jodelenortiz. You are allowed to put external links at the Links section below, provided all those links are related to the article. Again, we thank you for being part of this community that is also yours. :) --jodie 07:04, 24 January 2007 (PST)

Ey, I changed the format of | Photocopy album page but kept the content, just to give you a sample how you can make use of the template. As with the sections that don't have contents yet, it's up to you to keep or delete them. Cool song titles! By the way, where can we find/download some of your sample songs? Those links as well as your lyrics site, could be stated in the Links section. Also, when you post messages in any Talk Page please use Your Signature with Timestamp button above this message board. Good luck! --jodie 08:35, 24 January 2007 (PST)

Further to discussion about formatting/editing...

Hi Jodie Thanks for your reply. Yes, I noticed the templates - good idea that things are standardized (which they should be for a website of this nature). I've just got online today, and am just checking my messages, but will come back to do some more editing later I hope - using the templates...

I'm completely happy writing in the third person. Using 'first person' quotes is ok though, yes?

Have checked your user page - aha! - I get the idea a bit more from the way you have formatted it, (related) external links at the bottom, ok, no problem.

Will check out the 'Photocopy of my Mind ' page, to see the changes - I'm sure they are appropriate, thanks. I'd like to keep the other pages that you set up for me and put content in them, when I get a chance, thanks again!

Re: Song Titles - thanks for the compliment! I have 30-second samples of 4 songs at http://www.myspace.com/johnzonn and hopefully (hasn't been confirmed yet) this Sunday I shall have a whole song playing at the 'Virtual Open Mic', also on myspace - there is a link to it (in the 'friends' section) on my myspace webpage.

I don't have a lyrics site, but I could put the myspace link with the other external links at the bottom of the page.

OK. I think that's it for now. On with the editing!!

John--Johnzonn 02:01, 25 January 2007 (PST)

      • Using quotations (first person) is perfectly fine. My suggestion is you limit quotations though and rephrase the other statements to be third-person type. The External Links section is not only for the User Page. You may have that also on your artist and album pages. I heard your songs and I like them all! Couldn't wait until I could download them with full version especially Caffeine Days :) --jodie 05:26, 25 January 2007 (PST)

Hi Jodie. OK. Yes the info about quotes sounds fine to me, also about External Links. Thanks for compliments on the songs. I'm kind of concerned about free downloads of music on the net affecting CD sales, but it's so prevalent nowadays that one has to go with the flow I suppose and I shall be uploading more possible downloads as soon as I can, so hopefully you can hear the full versions soon!!--Johnzonn 03:10, 27 January 2007 (PST)

      • Ey, you're right! Please don't do that for now. That may lead to piracy of your music someday. To let your fans (including me) listen to your songs, I suggest you submit to online live radio programs. There are lots of them. That's a great way of reaching a bigger audience. More songs to come, JOhn! :)--jodie 03:47, 27 January 2007 (PST)

Ok. Well, I'm working on text at the moment anyway and putting more content in. Actually, I have recently submitted a song to www.virtualopenmic.com and hopefully I shall receive notification of when it will get played! Also, I'm not sure if they're still playing it there, but www.radiogetswild.com were playing songs from an album of mine, last year and the year before, too.--Johnzonn 04:01, 27 January 2007 (PST)

Re: 'Photocopy'...

Ah, I'm getting the picture now, even more... The formatting looks cool. The templates produce a good effect don't they. I'll try to fill in some of the gaps at some point very soon! All the best John--Johnzonn 02:08, 25 January 2007 (PST)

      • Okay :) Please use the template also for your Artist Page. Thanks! --jodie 05:28, 25 January 2007 (PST)

OK. Template for Artist Page - that's not my User Page? I'll have a look. Thanks.--Johnzonn 03:11, 27 January 2007 (PST)

      • See [1] for Artist Page template. User page has no template, it's your freedom page. Your user page's location is at User:Johnzonn. Keep it up! --jodie 03:34, 27 January 2007 (PST)

Thanks Jodie, How would I transfer the Artist Template into my current artist page (John Zonn)? --Johnzonn 03:38, 27 January 2007 (PST)

Oh actually, it's OK, I've just worked it out!!! No worries...--Johnzonn 03:41, 27 January 2007 (PST)

Summary

Hi Johnzonn, I think you are doing good. Just one thing, please add a short summary each time you do something to a page. This will help admins know and track what you are doing with the pages. The summary box can be found when you are in edit mode just above the "save page" button below. Just write a three to five word description summary on what you did to the page like for instance: added external links, corrected spelling, added albums image, etc. Thanks. -- Adminguy 08:57, 23 March 2007 (PDT)

Hi Eric, ah, I didn't realise I had to do that! That's ok. I can do it next time I edit something. This time I just changed the durations of some songs. Thanks. --Johnzonn 10:21, 23 March 2007 (PDT)

Thanks John. -- Ericgo 18:50, 23 March 2007 (PDT)
