also, I would like to know what is the difference between this site and wikipedia. isnt it redundant?

• • • Featured Users are posted on the WikiMusicGuide main page. This is our way of thanking WikiGuides for continually helping the site by creating wiki pages related to music.

Your question about the difference of WMG and Wikipedia is a very good one. I would like to highlight the following distinctions:

1) Wikipedia is an online encyclopedia with contents on all fields, not just music. WikiMusicGuide is focused on music. Ideally, a WikiMusicGuide page does not contain all the details about the life of the artist (an encyclopedic characteristic). It focuses mainly on the artist as a musician and on his/her music, not in an elaborative manner, but as shown by listings and charts. That's why History is very important in wikipedia, while About in WMG must be precise and must capture the more significant events in the artist's life, in a shorter form. Some music browsers do not really have time to read the whole encyclopedia article, they're just looking for key information.

2)The writings in WMG are mostly freely written from a fan's point of view. This is because WikiMusicGuide gives every fan the chance to research and write wiki pages about his/her favorite artists, creating a community of music enthusiasts / fans for WMG.

3)WikiMusicGuide gives an equal oppportunity for famous, upcoming and independent artists to get promoted. Aside from allowing them to create their own pages, WikiMusicGuide also selects Featured Artist, Featured Indie Artist and Featured Album and promotes them through press releases and other online resources. This is a significant identity of WikiMusicGuide - as an online music guide and a way of promoting the artist and his craft.It is part of the Music 2.0 revolution.

Maybe what confuses you is the similarity in the format. This is because both use wiki.
