About
Rock band U2 originated in Dublin, Ireland in 1976. They decided to influence their music with the Christian influence. In 1983, the single "Sunday Bloody Sunday" was dedicated to the lives of Irish civilians who died during the Irish troubles. All through out the 80’s the U2 concentrated on campaigning against the IRA (Irish Republican Army).
In 1984, they released the Unforgettable Fire album the name came from a painting by a Hiroshima and Nagasaki atomic bomb survivor. U2 became more and more active in the Dublin society. In 1985, the band participated in the Live Aid concert. After the appearance U2’s album sales rapidly went off the chart.
During the 90’s U2 was being ridiculed. In the 2000’s the band changed from an extravagant concerts to a simpler arenas. They did not stop doing social and charity works. U2 had a fund raising for the Omagh bombing survivors and the September 11 attacks. They also promoted awareness through the Make Poverty History Campaign. - U2 is amazing. Each album they come up with is better than previous one. They are not over rated and they do a lot of charity works that makes them awesome. -Mimi 07:40, 31 July 2007 (PST)
