[edit] About
[edit] Early Life
Tweet (Charlene L. Keys) was born on January 21, 1971 in Rochester, New York. Her parents encouraged Tweet and her siblings to plat an instrument. Tweet’s instrument was her voice. She was a member of the church choir and sang every Sunday. After graduation, with a lot of extra effort Tweet quickly started auditioning.
[edit] Early Career
Luck was on her side, Missy Elliot was recruiting girls for her all-girl group named Sugar. When Tweet auditioned for the group she was what Missy was looking for but both went on different paths. The struggling artist soon worked with another all-girl group and was given a contract. The group was promised an album that never came. Tweet nearly gave up on her dreams.
Tweet went back home in Panama City, Florida (where her family was relocated). She started to move on away from the music business. Tweet hid her depression from her parents and planned to commit suicide. Just a day before her planned suicide, Missy Elliot gave Tweet a call asking her to be a part of her So Addictive album.
At the studio, Missy realize that Tweet wasn’t meant to be a backup singer but to be under the lime light. The rapper quickly arranged a meeting with Sylvia Rhone, Elektra Records CEO. In 2002, Tweet’s dream finally came true. She released her debut album, Southern Hummingbird.
