Tom Petty is a popular American musician and the founder of the group, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers. As a solo artist, one of his biggest albums released was Wildflowers which is certified platinum.

Tom Petty was born on October 20, 1950 at at Northern Florida. Tom started playing music while he was in high school. In 1967, Tom dropped out from school to join the band, Mudcrutch which also features Mike Campbell and Benmont Tench.
In 1970, the band went to Los Angeles to pursue their singing career and to find a record contract. After moving to LA, the band split apart. In 1975, Tom together with Mike and Benmont formed a band called The Heartbreakers. Tom signed a recording contract under Shelter Records, and the group became Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers.
In 1976, the band released their self-titled debut album under Shelter Records. Their album was a big disappointment in the United States but it was a big hit in England. The album reached number 30 at the UK Charts. Their single, Breakdown was a big hit in U.S. and U.K.
In 1978, they released their second album, You're Gonna Get It and it became the bands first American Top 40 album. In 1979, Tom signed a recording contract under Backstreet Records and released Damn The Torpedoes. The album was the biggest hit of Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers. Several albums were released by the band before Tom released his first solo album.
In 1988, Tom joined the group, Traveling Wilburys which also includes, Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Roy Orbison and Jeff Lynne. In that same year, they released their first album.
In 1989, Tom released his first solo album Full Moon Fever which reached number 3 on the Billboard charts and went into triple platinum. It features three top ten hit singlesm such as, I Won't Back Down, Runnin Down A Dream and [Tree Fallin]]. After 5 years, Tom released his second solo album, Wildflowers, which is his biggest selling studio album. It also received good reviews from music critics. In 2005, Tom received Billboard Century Awards for his lifetime achievements.
