Toby Lightman is an American singer/songwriter who rose to fame when her debut album Little Things was released in 2004 under Lava Records.

Toby Lightman was born in the year 1978 in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. She was raised in Philadelphia. At the age of six, she already knows how to play violin. She enrolled in the Young Stars Music School.
During her high school days, Toby became a member of the Lacrosse team and the orchestra. She started performing when her friend encouraged her to join a vocal workshop class. During their graduation rites, Toby was assigned to sing, she sang a gospel version of Bridge Over Troubled Water. The audience was impressed and so she decided to pursue her music career.
She studied in University of Wisconsin-Madison taking up Broadcasting. During her college days, she joined the band, Footsteps. She also began composing songs and performed at open mic nights. She went to Thailand for five months and performed there as one of the lead vocalist of the rock band Bliss.
She returns to United States to finish her degree in broadcasting. After graduating, she transferred in New York City. She recorded one-track demo taped and sent it to some recording companies. Lava Recording Company has heard her track and immediately signed a recording contract with them. Her first album, Little Things was released on 2004.
