Tift Merritt is an American singer from Texas. She released her debut album Bramble Rose which was called as "the best release by a new artist, in any genre".

About
Singer and songwriter Tift Merritt was born on January 8, 1975 in Houston, Texas. At the age of two years old the Merritt family moved to Raleigh, North Carolina. She grew up listening to the music of Dolly Parton and Bob Dylan. After her high school graduation Tift worked as a waitress and later on moved to New York City. Her mother forced her to go home and study at the University of North Carolina. There she met Zeke Hutchins, who told her to start her own band. Tift started sending demos at every club driving around North Carolina with the help of Ryan Adams.
On June 2002, Tift released her debut album, Bramble Rose. She was also a great songwriter. In 2004, her follow-up album, Tambourine was issued followed by House Is Loud.
