About

The band's vocalist, Stephan Jenkins, went from group-to-solo-to-group performances until bassist Arion Salazar joined, establishing what is now called Third Eye Blind. In 1995, guitarist Kevin Cadogan and drummer Brad Hargreaves joined the group as well. Thanks to performances in the San Francisco club scene, the band was able to cultivate a fan base. The news on the music of the quartet was made even bigger by their performance in the 1996 Oasis concert at the San Francisco Civic Auditorium. The band signed with Elektra, and in 1997, they released their self-titled debut album. It consists of rock tracks like "Semi-Charmed Life," their first big hit, "How's It Going to Be," "Graduate," "Losing A Whole Year," and "Jumper," all of which are successfull singles. The album stayed in the Billboard Top 200 albums for over a year, and sold 6 million copies.

Blue followed in 1999, and was a certified double platinum due to tracks like "Deep Inside of You" and "Never Let You Go," and also to the the sold-out tours made by the band throughout 2000. It was not as phenomenal as the first album though.

Cadogan left the group in 2000, and Tony Fredianelli came to take his place. In May 2003, Third Eye Blind released their third record, Out Of The Vein, containing 13 tracks such as the album opener "Faster," "Palm Reader," "Danger," "Company," and "Blinded (When I See You)," the band's first single which was also a chart topper. According to Jenkins, “There’s been enough of a break that it isn’t a continuation [referring to Out Of The Vein]. We’ve spent some time soul-searching, getting back to the nitty gritty.” As to their plans, “I think we’ve opened a vein, so to speak, and we’re going to let it bleed.”
