The Urge is an American Funk Band who rose to fame via their album, Master of Styles.

The Urge was formed in 1987 by "Jeff Herschel" on drums, "Karl Grable" on bassm "Pat Malecek" on guitar and "Steve Ewing" as the lead singer. Their first casette, "Bust Me Dat Forty" was issued in 1989. After one year, their first LP, "Puttin The Backbone Back" was released. In 1992, "Matt Kwiatkowski" was added on the line-up on trombone. In that same year, they released their album, Magically Delicious. A year later, another members were added like, "Tood Painter" and "Bill Reiter" on keyboard. They released their live LP, Fat Babies in The Mix in 1993. Pat and Jeff left the band in 1004 and were replaced by, "Jerry Jost" on guitar and "John Pessoni" on drums. They released their next album, Receiving The Gift of Flavor in 1995. In 1998, they next album, Master of Styles was released. It landed at #1 on US Billboard Heatseekers. Their next album, Too Much Stereo was issued in 2000 which chartered at #12 on US Billboard Heatseekers. They were disbanded in 2001 due to their musical differences. Steve went solo and other members joined other bands.
