In the 60's, a group of grimy, noisy and relentlessly bleak rock & roll band was formed called, The Stooges, headed by Iggy Pop. The band was the first rock & roll band completely stripped of the swinging beat that epitomized R&B and early rock & roll. One of their unforgettable albums released was, The Stooges (album).

Iggy Pop was a former member of The Prime Movers and The Iguanas, before he decided to formed his own group, The Stooges in 1967 at Ann Arbor, Michigan, United States. The band members were, Ron Ashton for guitar, Scott Ashton for drums and Dave Alexander for bass guitar. Their first performance was held at a Hollywood concert at the University of Michigan student union.
The bands first self-titled debut album, The Stooges (album) was released in 1969, which was produced by John Cale. The album did not sell well. After the released of their second album, Fun House, the band begins to be disintegrated, as Iggy sank into heroin addiction. Iggy met David Bowie in 1972, at the time the band were already in limbo. The two became friends. David help the group to signed a recording contract with Columbia Records. David also took control of the production of the band's third album, Raw Power which was released in 1973. The album was a flopped.
The Stooges were disbanded in 1974 due to Iggy's heroin addiction. Their last performances were a classic live album, Metallic K.O.. After Iggy's rehabilitation, he began a solo career. The Asheton brothers formed a new band called, New Order, but it did not fare well and soon disbanded. Ron joined New Race. Dave died in 1975 because of Pneumonia.
The group were reunited in 2003, they appeared on the album of Iggy, Skull Ring along with Scott on drums and Ron on both guitar and bass. The band released an album, The Weirdness in 2006. The bands are now on a U.S. tour, which started in April 2007.
