[edit] Formation of The Source

The Source was formed in 2004 when guitarist Harrison Leonard met vocalist and keyboardist Aaron Goldich.

Goldich recalls: “I was already involved with three other projects when I met Harrison and was asked to join The Source. I agreed to at least play with the band a couple of times, but that was all it took for me to drop my other commitments and join The Source full-time; I knew that this was it.”

The Source began composing and performing live within months of their first meeting. During this time, Goldich and Leonard developed a unique bond and method of writing music together. Blending their compositional and lead abilities with the improvisational and signature colorings of their rhythm powerhouse, Isaac Watts, the band composed pieces such as Bridges and Unspoken Love.

Watts perfectly complements the unique sound of The Source and through playing with them for several years has developed a unique melodic and meaningful style. He has proven to be quite the showman, executing difficult passages with great ease and entertaining crowds with eccentric yet stylistic performances.

After a long search for a solid lineup, the band signed on bassist Nico Photos. Though Photos had no band experience, the group decided: “Yes, he was a beginner. But Nico wasn’t afraid of the challenge, and he met our musical demand and work ethic head-on. He was—and is— the right bassist for the group, and he has blossomed into a fine talent.”

Shortly after The Source took to the stage an enduring bond formed and they knew their lineup was complete. With the band members’ new chemistry, The Source began holding conferences with Jeff Kallestad, an audio engineer and mixer, at his home in Santa Clarita, California. On July 9, 2005, The Source went to work in Kallestad’s home studio to record their debut album, All Along This Land. With the guidance of renowned audio engineer and mixer David Henszey (Cherokee Studios), The Source completed and released the record on June 6th, 2006.

All Along This Land is a collection of distinguished music that entrances all who listen. With such songs as Over And Under The Stars And The Sun, Bridges, and Dreams, All Along This Land proves to be a profound accomplishment and affirms that The Source will continue to grow and be recognized for their uniquely progressive sound.

[edit] Reviews

  • This is the 2006 debut CD by a young Los Angeles prog band whose surprising sound is in many ways very early-70’s retro, with elements that include early Yes, The Beatles, a little Pink Floyd and dreamy psychedelia. But beyond that, they don’t sound like anyone else today. Much of their sound derives from the low-distortion jazz and country tones favored by guitarist Harrison Leonard, similar to Peter Banks and Steve Howe. Vocalist, principal songwriter, and keyboardist Aaron Goldich favors grand piano, with some Hammond and analog synth sounds. There’s a good balance of vocal and instrumental passages, and like any good prog album, there’s a five-part suite. Charming, to say the least. - Kinesis Progressive Rock CD's review

  • This album is amazing! What is even more amazing is the potential- this is the Source's first album, and look at what they are producing. I can't wait to see what comes next for this exciting band. - Merouan, via iTunes

  • The cover does not lie... although the first song with its "Beatles and psychedelic" feel may be a little misleading, the rest of the album falls clearly into the classic Yes tradition, big conceptual epics included. Perhaps a little too ambitious for a first album; however, if words like Relayer or Awaken mean something special to you, this album is really worth investigating. And, given the surprising youth of this band, one cannot help wondering about the future evolution of The Source. Who knows, maybe we are hearing the first steps of a future prog giant! - Jose Javier Delmas, via CD Baby

  • Very, very good American 70's influenced prog. A new, young band that gives us a fresh well-played album with lots of inspiration from Genesis, Yes, ELP and Pink Floyd mainly. Very strong song writing, and highly skilled players makes this album one of the most interresting debuts for a long time. Probably the most interresting new band since Spocks Beard! RECOMMENDED - The Missing Piece, Music website

  • This CD is a great album for any progressive rock fan to check out. Great lyrical content and powerful music makes it hard to turn off! Source Fan, via CD Baby

- Hard Sounds review
