[edit] About
The band was originally a side project of James Russell Mercer and Jesse Sandoval, who on 1992 both were still a member of the musical group Flake. On 1999, the Flake disbanded and the new band they named, The Shins, was born. They recorded two singles under Omnibus Records, "Nature Bears A Vacuum" and "When I Goosestep".
After recording they joined Modest Mouse in one of their tours and they were discovered by a Sup Pop Record representative who signed them a contract immediately to released their debut album on 2001 Oh, Inverted World. Their debut album gave them critical acclaim which was brought up to the present.
