The Shangri-las were an American Pop Girl Group formed in New York. Along with The Shirellas and The Ronettes, The Shangri-las were among the greatest girls group probably the greatest one. They released several singles including their hit single, "Leader of The Pack".

About
The Shangri-las was formed at Andrew Jackson High School in Queens, New York in 1963. Comprising of Sisters Betty and Mary Weiss and twins Margie and Mary Ann Gansier. They met while attending at the said school.
They started performing locally. They were noticed by record Producer Artie Ripp who signed them to Kama Sutra Productions. Their first song was recorded live at a local club entitled, "Simon Says" but it was released at the later part under Smash Label.
After that, they were hired by George "Shadow" Morton to demo a song he had written entitled "Remember (Walking in The Sun)" which became the first single released of the group in 1964. The single chartered #5 at the US Singles Chart. Their next single, "Leaders of The Pack" landed at #1 at the US Singles Chart and released their debut album with the same title. By the end of 1964, they received a Gold Record from their two singles released.
