About

The Pretty Things was formed in 1964 by "Dick Taylor" and "Phil May" at London. Dick was a former member of Rolling Stones. Dick and Phil met at London Central School of Art and immediately they jive and formed a new band. They recruited, "Brian Pendleton" on guitar, "John Stax" on bass, and "Viv Prince" on drums.

The group became popular in England. They self-titled debut album was released in 1965 under Fontana Records. They released their singles, "Rosalyn" which chartered #41 on UK Charts and "Honey I Need" which landed #13 on the UK Charts from 1964-1965. Viv left the band in 1965 and was replaced by, "Skip Alan". In 1966, Brian left the group. John quit in 1967 and was replaced by "Jon Povey" adn "Wally Waller".

Tbeir next album, Emotions was released in 1967. In 1970, they released one of their biggest hit album, Parachute. The album was named Album of The Year by Rolling Stone. After the released of the album, due to bad sales of their single, they decided to separate. Skip went to another group called, "Sunshine". When Alan's manager, "Bill Shepherd" heard the album, Parachute, he asked Skip who were the singers, he told him that the group was his former band. Bill decided to rebuild the group. The group now composed of "May Povey", "Peter Tolson" and "Stuart Brooks".

They signed a recording contract under, Warner Bros. Records. Their album, Silk Torpedo was released in 1974 which peaked at #104 on the Pop Albums Chart. The album was also their first US released album. Again it was not a big hit album. In 1980, they hired a new manager, "Mark St John". However in the end of the decade, they again almost disappeared from the limelight. Dick and May rebuild the group with "Hans Waterman", "Roelf Ter Velt" and "Barkley McKay".

They released their album, Wine, Woman and Whiskey: More Chicago Blues and Rock Sessions in 1994. In 1999 they issued the album, Rage Before Beauty. Their recent album, Balboa Island was released in 2007 under Zoko Records.
