The Postal Service is an Indie Rock band from Washington. The group got its name due to their way in producing their songs. One of the band member Jimmy would write the lyrics then send DAT tapes to Ben who would edit the songs and send them back to fellow member Jimmy via "Postal Service".

About

Electro-pop group The Postal Service originated from Seattle, Washington in 2001. Featuring Jimmy Tamborello, Ben Gibbard, Jenny Lewis and Jen Wood. It all began when Gibbard was featured in Tamborello’s former band, Dntel, album. The duo decided to work together. Tamborello added the electronc pieces while Gibbard inserts the vocals, lyrics and guitar. They finished their works through mail. The pieces that were sent back and forth resulted to the formation of the Postal Services’ debut album, Give Up, which was released on 2003.

  • United States Postal Service sent the band a letter citing their trademark on the phrase "postal service" but after some negotiations between the United Postal they decided to allow the use of the trademark in exchange for promotional efforts on the band.
