The Police was one of the popular bands in the late 70's. One of their best selling albums released was Synchronicity. The album reached number one in the U.K. and U.S. chart. It was a certified eight times Platinum.

About
The Police was formed in 1977 by Stewart Copeland and Sting. Stewart was a son of a CIA agent; he studied in California and moved to England. He joined a progressive rock band called Curved Air. Sting was a teacher and a former member of Last Exit. The two became friends after they met each other at local jazz club. They decided to formed a band with Henry Padovani for guitar. The group played in local london pubs for the first few months. Afterwards they appeared in a chewing gum commercial as bleached-blonded rock band.
The Police released their first single, Fall Out in 1977. The single sold more than 70,000 copies. After the released of their single, Henry left the band and was replaced by Andy Summers, a veteran of the British Invasion. The group signed a recording contract under A&M in 1978. Their first album Roxanne was released in 1978 but it did not reached the chart.
Their follow up albums was also a hit and reached the album charts. The group took a break in 1982. Sting released his solo single and went hit. The band returned in 1983, releasing Synchronicity, which reached number one in U.K. and U.S. Charts. Their single, Every Breath You Take spent 8 weeks at the U.S. charts.
During one of their album tour, personal and tensions between the band members has generated and they had no desire to work together for a while. Sting went solo. The band decided to split up in the mid 80's. The group was reunited in the 49th Annual Grammy Awards last March 2007.
