The Matches is an Oakland punk band formed in the 90's. The band had collaborations with several bands like Yellowcard, Matchbook Romance,Less Than Jake, Reel Big Fish, Starting Line, MXPX, and many others.

About
Alternative band The Matches in 1997. They were originally called “The Locals” during high school. It consisted Shawn Harris (vocalist/ guitarist), Justin San Souci (bassist) and Matt Whalen (drummer). The Locals were not allowed in the Bay Area since they were under 21. They thought out of the box and started webcasting. They added Jon Devoto to be their guitarist. The band had a new tactic called “Commo Promo”. Through the word of mouth the boys became a big hit. Soon their concerts sold out but the Locals were forced to rename themselves since their was a band with the same name in Chicago.
Thus, The Matches was born. The band used the money that they saved to but equipments so that they can start recording in basements and living rooms. In 2003, they released their debut album, E. Von Dahl Killed the Locals. It sold 4.000 copies. The Matches became very popular and played with Lit, Reel Big Fish and Zebrahead. Also in the same year, they recorded a holiday benefit album with New Found Glory, MxPx and Fall Out Boy. In 2004, The Matches made a remix version of the debut album that they released. The Matches went on an extensive tour followed by their second album, Decomposer, in 2006.
