The Go-Go's is one of the most successful all female American group band. The group was known for its own compositions and the members of the band played their own instruments.

All female rock band The Go-Go's began in 1978 under the name the Misfits. The line-up of the band was Belinda Carlisle on vocals, Charlotte Caffey as lead guitarist and keyboard, Jane Wiedlin on guitar and vocals, Margot Olaverra on bass and Elissa Bello on drums. Later on they changed their name to The Go-Go's and played gigs at local clubs. In 1979 Gina Schock was the new drummer. The girls toured in England realizing "We Got the Beat" under Stiff Records. While in the U.S. the single became a hit but they hard a hard time landing a record deal.
In 1980, Olaverra stopped performing due to an illness. Kathy Valentine became band’s new guitarist. The following year, the band landed a contract with IRS Records and released their debut album Beauty And The Beat that summer. It stayed at the top of the charts for six weeks selling two million copies. The single "Our Lips Are Sealed" became a huge hit. In 1982, The Go-Go's released their sophomore album, Vacation. The album went gold and entered the Top Ten. The next year, the band could not perform due to Caffey’s broken wrist. In 1984, they returned with the Talk Show album. The single "Head Over Heels" and "Turn to You" were a hit. Wiedlin left the band by the end of the year and in May 1985 The Go Go's disbanded. Charlotte Caffey formed the Graces. Belinda Carlisle became the most successful solo artist from the band and Jane Wiedlin started acting.

- The group was reunited for a benefit concert for the California Environmental Protection Act, a 1990 ballot initiative.
- In a recent interview with PlanetOut, Belinda Carlisle was asked, "Have you ever had a nonsexual crush on a woman?" her answer was "Oh yeah, well, Debbie Harry was my first big crush.
