The Get Up Kids is an Indie rock band from the Kansas City. Their debut album Four Minute Mile became sucessful. They also went on tour together with the band The Promise Ring and Jimmy Eat World.

Emo-pop group The Get Up Kids began in Kansas City, Missouri in 1995. The line-up consisted of Mathew Pryor (vocals & guitar), Jim Suptic (guitar & vocals), Robert Pope (bass) and brother Ryan (drummer). In 1996, the band signed a contract with Doghouse Records and released the debut, Four Minute Mile. It gained popularity and was the talk in the indie rock scene. The band was even received a number of offers from major labels. In 1998, the band spent the year touring with Jimmy Eat World and Promise Ring. The Get Up Kids continued releasing singles like "I'm a Loner, Dottie, a Rebel" which was included in the Something to Write Home About album in 1999. It already included new keyboardist, James Dewees. The album was praised in the emo scene.

There was a two-year silence from the band and the came back with Eudora. The Get Up Kids then toured extensively with Green Day, Hot Rod Circuit and Weezer. In 2002, they issued On a Wire. It was a mixture of pop and emo. Two years later Guilt Show appeared followed by a live conert album, Live @ The Granada Theater, later that year. In 2005, the band announced that they were going to split and played for the last time at their hometown. The members are now working on different projects.

  • The name of the band came from the lyric "Suburban Get Up Kids" in a song by a previous band called Secular Theme featuring future The Get Up Kids members.
