The_Fame was released on September 09, 2008 under Interscope records. The album peaked no.17 on the Billboard 200 and no.3 on the U.K. Chart. The first single in the album "Poker Face", quickly became a top three hit in Sweden and a #1 hit in New Zealand, Canada and Australia. The second single "Just Dance" featuring Colby O'Donis peaked no.1 in Canada, Australia, U.K. and Ireland. The third single "Eh, Eh (Nothing Else I Can Say)" peaked no.32 in the Australian ARIA Charts. The album has three versions the original version was released in Canada, some European countries and Australia.

The standard edition of the The Fame was the first edition of the album to be released. It was released across various dates in the middle of 2008. It was released to the countries of Canada, Mexico, some countries in Eastern, Central and Southern Europe, Australia and New Zealand. The cover displayed a picture of Lady GaGa face, wearing a pair of large shades with 'The Fame' written in small white text on the left frame of her shades. 'Lady GaGa' is written in large white text at the bottom of the cover.

Intenational tracklisting
To correspond with the US release of The Fame in October, a newer edition of the album was released. It was released internationaly including the countries that saw the release of the standard edition. It was not released in the UK or Ireland. It was released over the course of 2008 and 2009 and had an altered tracklisting. The US cover of The Fame is very similar to the international version except 'Lady GaGa' was written in red text. The international edition saw the tracks LoveGame, Paparazzi, Boys, Boys, Boys and Money Honey being slightly remixed. The song I Like It Rough which appeared as a bonus track on the standard edition become an official track on this edition. Again, Again was made a bonus track in Japan and Germany only. The songs Paper Gangsta and the Space Cowboy/Flo Rida collaboration Starstruck were added and gave the album a more hip-hop oriented sound. In Germany, a special deluxe edition of The Fame was released. It included all the tracks found on the international edition as well as three live versions of Just Dance, Poker Face and Eh, Eh (Nothing Else I Can Say) which originally appeared on The Cherrytree Sessions EP. The German Deluxe Edition has an identical cover to the international edition with just a sticker indicating that it is the deluxe edition.

Ireland and UK tracklisting
In 2009, on January 09 and January 12, The Fame was released in the Rebublic Of Ireland and the United Kingdom respectively. It had a relatively different tracklisting from the other two editions of The Fame plus an enhanced bonus track, LoveGame (Space Cowboy Remix), when placed inside a computer.
