The Coup is an American Hip-Hop Group who rose to fame via their album, Steal This Album.

The Coup was formed in 1992 at Oakland, California. The group were composed of "Raymond Riley", "E-Roc", "DJ Pam", and "Funkstress" to complete the trio. Raymond was involved in political activism before he joined the trio. Their debut album, Kill My Landlord was released in 1993 and chartered at #83 at US R&B/Hip-Hop Albums Chart. In October 1994, they released their next album, Genocide & Juice and chartered at #62 on Albums Chart. Their third album, Steal This Album was released in 1998. It landed on #50 on R&B Albums Chart. Party Music was released in 2001. In 2004, "Tarus Jackson" joined the group. However, on November 15, 2005, Tarus was shot dead during a robbery at his home. In 2005, they released their latest album, Pick A Bigger Weapon and features the singles, "My Favorite Mutiny" and "Pork & Beef" which were featured in the movie "Superbad".
