[edit] About

The Corrs

Jim, Shaorn, Caroline and Andrea Corr all grew up with their parents, Jean and Gerry Corr in Dundalk, County Louth. Music has always bee in Dundalk's blood and the local pubs and clubs are known for their live music sessions. Music was running in the veins of the siblings at a very early age because of the music environment Dundalk offers.

The eldest of four is Jim born on July 31, 1964, followed by Sharon, born on March 24, 1970. Caroline was the third who was born on March 17, 1973. The youngest of them is Andrea born on May 17, 1974.

All the band members can play different musical instruments. Jim can play the piano, which he has mastered quickly at a young age because of the regular lessons he was having, hard work and lots and ots of practice. He then learned to take up the keyboard and the synthesiser. After learning the keyboards and the synthesiser he then learned and mastered playing the guitars. His teacher for the guitars was the guy who lived next door. The guitar is the one instrument that Jim could just not do without. He became the guitarist of the band.

Sharon can also play the piano, which she started playing as soon as she can reach the keys. As a toddler she used to sneak to Jim's room where the piano is located and hit the keys much to Jim's annoyance. At 6, she started to learn the violin which is accidental because her father invited their fiddle-playing local preist Father McNally over to teach Caroline but Caroline was terrified that Gerry decided to let Sharon have the go instead and it was an instant success. At 7, Sharon was a member of the Redeemer youth orchestra which is renowned in County Loath for its fine musicianship. Sharon missed only one violin lesson in her whole life and today she is qualified to teach the instrument professionally. She became the violinist oif the band.

Like her brother and sister, Caroline also knows how to play piano which was taught by her dad from a very early age. She was a natural at the instrument and mastered the instrument very fast. Aside from the piano, Caroline also knows how to play the bodhran. She learned this just by watching videos of traditional Irish musicians. Moreover, she also knows how to play drums and learned it from a "teach yourself CD". She then became the drummer of the band.

If Jim, Sharon and Caroline knows how to play the piano, Andrea also knows how to play the piano. She was taught by her father but because all the siblings were fighting for the piano, Andrea was given the tin whistle (a small Irish flute) to keep her happy. Like all other Corr siblings who mastered their own instrument, Andrea also mastered the tin whistle very quickly. She also showed the sign of an extraordinary singing voice which made it her "musical instrument". Her voice has a complete uniqueness all of its own which is filled filled with passion and strength. She then became the lead vocal of the band.

The Corrs were formed to audition for the 1991 film The Committments. While Jim, Sharon and Caroline had a small part, Andrea got a speaking part as Sharon Rabbitte, the sister of the main character. While auditioning, they were noticed by their future manager, Jihn Hughes. The band was relatively not known outside Ireland until 1994 when American ambassador Jean Kennedy Smith invited them to perform at the 1994 World Cup in Boston.

Their debut album Forgiven, Not Forgotten with the carrier single Runaway was a great success in Australia, Sweden, Spain and Ireland. After 2 years, they released their second album, Talk on Corners with the carrier single Only When I Sleep which was primarily successful in Ireland and Britain but eventually became successful wroldwide. After the success of their second album, they released their third album, In Blue, with the carrier single Breathless that topped the charts, was certified platinum. With their third album being certified platinum, 4 years later they released their fourth album Borrowed Heaven, with the carrier single Summer Sunshine, which was very popular worldwide. With the success of their careers they still haven't forgotten their roots, as can be seen n their latest album Home, which was an album celebrating their Irish roots.

Not only did they have their singles and albums on the charts, not only did they perfrom/record for their albums, they also have collaborations with other artists as well. They recorded Canto Ala Vista with Josh Groban. They also collaborated with Rod Stewart, Alejandro Sanz, Ron Wood from The Rolling Stones, Sheryl Crow on C'mon, C'mon and Bono from U2.
