[edit] About
The Clash was formed in London in the year 1976. It was originally composed of Joe Strummer on vocals and rhythm guitar, Mick Jones on vocals and lead guitar, Paul Simonon on bass and vocals, Keith Levene also on guitar and Terry Chimes on drums. They were created during the first wave of British punk.
Keith Levene never recorded an album with the band because after five gigs with them, he left the band. And before the released of their first album, Terry Chimes left the band and replaced by Topper Headon.
The band first self titled debut album was released in 1977. It was a huge success. Their next album, Give 'Em Enough Rope, was the first to feature Topper Headon on all cuts. Pearlman was impressed by Topper's impressive timing and musical skills and thus named him "The Human Drum Machine". The album was released in 1978 and debuted at number two on the British charts.
Their third album, London Calling released in 1979 is considered by many critics to be one of the greatest albums in the history of rock music; The album was released in the US in January 1980, and a decade later Rolling Stone magazine declared it as one the best album in the 80's. Rolling Stone also placed it at #8 on their list in 2003 of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
