The Cardigans is a Swedish indie band formed in 1992. The band was famous for their hit singles "Erase/Rewind", "My Favourite Game" from the album Gran Turismo and "Lovefool".

About
Alternative rock band, The Cardigans formed in 1992 in Jonkoping Sweden. Peter Svensson (guitarist) and Magnus Sveningsson (bassist) became acquainted through their hardcore group. The two got exhausted with metal and decided to form a band with Nina Persson. Later on added Lars-Olof Johansson (keyboard) and Bengt Lagerberg (drummer).
In 1993, The Cardigans decided to move in together in a small apartment to record a demo tape. It landed in the hands of Tore Johansson the following year. He signed him with Stockholm Label. In 1994, they released Emmerdale. It included the single “Rise & Shine” which rocked the airwaves in Sweden. Emmerdale was voted as Sweden’s Slitz magazine best album of 1994. The band had an extensive tour around Europe and also started recording their follow-up album, Life which was released in 1995. It was more upbeat and sold 1.5 million copies.
In America, The Cardigans grabbed the attention of major labels. Mercury Records signed them in. In 1996, First Band On The Moon was issued. The single “Lovefool” became a hit. The album eventually earned the gold status. In 1998, Gran Turismo was released which was followed by a long hiatus for The Cardigans. In 2003, they came back with their 5th album, Long Gone Before Daylight followed by Super Extra Gravity in 2005.
