Alexander Max Band was born on June 8, 1981. His father, Charles Band, is a low-budget horror film director. He started playing the guitar when he was 8 years old and at the age of 15, he dropped put of high school to pursue is love for music. (He graduated with a degree through homeschooling).

Prior to The Calling, Alex Band had two bands, Maybe Solitude and Generation Gap. Formed in Los Angeles, California, The Calling was the idea of Alex Band and guitarist, Aaron Kamin. The two met and became friends when Kamin was dating Band's sister. They were signed with RCA to a development deal and later on added additional band members (Billy Mohler on bass, Nate Wood on drums and Sean Woolstenhulme on guitars) to record their first album, Camino Palmero (named after the street Alex Band grew up). Released on July 10, 2001, Camino Palmero became huge success due to its massive hit single, Wherever You Will Go.

In June 2004, the duo (Band and Kamin) returned with Two. A year after its release, they decided to take a break. While on hiatus, Alex Band decided to go on solo. He signed under Geffen records. He's currently working on his solo project but assured the fans of The Calling that they will go back on the road soon.
