About
Forming in Los Angeles, California the pop band, The 88, consisted of Adam Merrin (piano), Keith Slettedahl (guitar), Brandon Jay (guitar), Carlos Torres (bass) and Mark Vasapolli (drums). Keith and Adam met during high school. After graduation the two formed a band and called themselves The Freeloaders. They soon changed their name to The 88 when Jay joined the band. The band name is said to come from a song by French Kicks and because the piano’s keys sum up to 88.
The band started performing all around California. The 88 issued their debut album, Kind Of Light, under EMK/Mootron Records in 2003. The album was a big success. The band began touring all over Canada and of course in America. When it was time to hit back to the studios for their follow-up album, Vasapolli decided to leave the group thus making Anthong Zimmitti their new drummer. In 2005, the band released their follow-up album Over And Over. The 88’s popularity rose and were asked to play in The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, Last Call with Carson Daly and Jimmy Kimmel Live. Some of their singles were also included in the soundtrack of the films Failure to Launch and You, Me and Dupree. Also on hit tv series One Tree Hill, The O.C. and Grey’s Anatomy. When 2007 came around, The 88 became a four-man band. Brandon Jay and Carlos Torres left the band but Todd O’Keefe was added.
