[edit] About

Taylor Hicks was born on October 7, 1976 to parents Brad Hicks, a dentist and Pamela Dickinson Hicks. He spent his childhood immersed in a stream of music by artists such as Ray Charles and Sam Cooke even thought he was born years after the great soul and blues performers. As an infant, he had blond hair but by the time he reached his 13th year, his hair started turning gray. He likes healthy food and as a child, he was skinny. He won't eat junk and fried foods, he prefers roasted meat, potatoes and vegetables. At the age of 16, he bought a harmonica from a flea market and spent most of his time practicing while other kids his age bracket were more concerned with driving cars. Taylor went to high school in Hoover, AL. He won a school talent contest but was never involved in any music program in school. However, he played varsity in basketball. He briefly attended Auburn University to study business and journalism but left to pursue his muse. He was in a couple bands, the Passing Through Band and The Taylor Hicks Band which has changed their name to LIMBO while Taylor is on American Idol.

His grandmother, Jonie Hicks describes him as a Southern gentleman and not pretentious. He feels at home on stage and open up his hearts to let the people in. Taylor is best known for his soulful voice and easy-going personality. He also has his own charity, Kid One Transport... such a nice guy, isn't he?

[edit] American Idol

Hicks auditioned for American Idol in Las Vegas, Nevada where he passed by the approval of the judges Randy Jackson and Paula Abdul, but not Simon Cowell who said he did not have enough Idol image to put him through the Hollywood rounds. But on his first performance, Simon Cowell admitted he was wrong. Fans of Taylor Hicks became known as the "Soul Patrol." On the 24th of May, 2006, Taylor Hicks was named the new American Idol where Katharine McPhee won second-place. He's the second male to win the competition after Ruben Studdard.
