The phrase superstars are born, not made is true for American-Thai sensation Tata Young. She became one of the youngest superstars in Thailand at the age fifteen and is one of the few Asian artists to break through the international music scene.

Tata Young (real name Amita Marie Young) was born on December 14, 1980 to an American father and a Thai mother. Young started singing at a very young age and at 11 won in the international division of the nationwide Thailand Junior Singing Contest. Three years later, Young signed a contract with GMM Grammy, Thailand’s biggest record label. Soon, Young was reigning the charts. Her debut album in Thai language entitled Amita Tata Young sold more than 1 million copies in less than five months, and her sophomore album, Tata 1,000,000 Copies Celebration, followed suit as well. Barely a year in the entertainment industry, Young was already reaping awards like "Entertainer of the Year" by the Bangkok Press, "Best Recording Artist for 1995", "Music Video of the Year", awards for #1 and #2 "Single of the Year", and "Album of the Year" for Amita Tata Young at the Radio Vote Awards in Thailand. Since then, Young has released more than thirteen albums, all of which are chart toppers both in Thailand and abroad.
In 1996, Young’s international career began to flourish when she appeared on the Australian TV program World Telly Broadcast which was shown in Australia and the rest of Southeast Asia. A few months later she held a successful concert at the Hollywood Palladium entitled Tata Live in Hollywood. During the Hong Kong Hand over, Young performed along side music giants Wet Wet Wet, Michael Learns to Rock, Lisa Stansfield, All 4 One and Brand New Heavies. While cultivating her music career, Young is also busy dabbling in acting and modeling. Her movie debut Red Bike Story earned her a Best Actress award in Thailand and was followed up by two other hit movies O-Negative and Plai Tien. Young has also endorsed for brands like Fuji Film, Yamaha motorcycles, Colgate and Pepsi and has been the cover girl of many international magazines.
Young and successful, Young is regarded as a role model was named one of Thailand’s “Most Influential People” by Elle Magazine and “One of 25 Most Influential Trend-setters in Asia" by Asiaweek. She was also the cover of Time magazine as one of the successful Eurasians in Asia.
In 2004, consistent with her change of image, Young released her first English language album, I Believe with its controversial carrier single Sexy, Naughty, Bitchy. The album was a hit not only in her native Thailand but in nearby Asian countries as well. Malaysia voted Young as one of the sexiest women alive, while Singapore asked her to judge the Miss Universe Pageant. Young’s name also became increasingly popular in India, Philippines, Taiwan, China and Japan. Young’s second English language album Temperature Rising was released in August 2006 and she is set to promote the album in Australia in 2007.
In December 2006, Young was featured in popular Asian cable network Star World’s station identification.

- Young is the first artist in 14 years to receive the Golden Pikkanes God Award. It is an award given by the Musical Artist Association of Thailand under the patronage of the King of Thailand.
- Young sang the opening song in the 13th Asian Games in Bangkok.
