A voice with a high vocal range and passionate delivery as she was for her elegant style, even though she was eliminated in the American Idol, Tamyra Gray earned the respect of the three judges and audiences and she even released her debut album The Dreamer.

Tamyra Gray was born on July 26, 1979 at Takoma Park, Maryland, USA. She was the 3rd youngest daughter with a dozen of siblings. Her family lived in Gaithersburg, MD, until she was 13. During her elementary days, Tamyra's music teacher taught her the basics of singing, the only formal training she had received.
When her family transferred in Atlanta, Tamyra together with her sister, Kim formed a vocal duo and appeared in local commercials and performed in a hip-hop dance troupe under the stage name, Element. It was Tamyra's parents who encouraged her interest in music which reflected her curiosity in all aspects of the music industry.
She took up Business Law, Entertainment Management and Recording Technology at Georgia State University. During her College days, she also joined the Miss Atlanta Contest and won the title. After she graduated, Tamyra performed and worked as a pre-school teacher before she joined the contest of the phenomenal top rating Reality TV Contest, American Idol.
During the contest proper, she was the early favorite of the three judges and the audiences especially when she sang the likes of Touch Me in the Morning, Minnie The Mocha, and If I Were Your Woman When Tamyra was eliminated from the contest, she was immediately signed a management contract under the management of the American Idol Creator, Simon Fuller.
After the U.S. Tour of all the American finalists, Tamyra began her recording session for her debut album and appeared also in an acting roles, such as the role of Aisha, a talented young singer with an abusive boyfriend on the TV Series Boston Public; Tamyra also portrayed the role of a lesbian singer on the show Half Half and Carly Anders.
In the summer of 2004, Tamyra released her debut album,The Dreamer which contained a collection of eclectic songs and composed by her, collaborating with BabyFace, Terry Lewis, Scott Storch, and Diane Warren.
