In real life, Tamia Marilyn Washington professionally known as Tamiawas born in Windsor, Ontario, Canada on May 9, 1975. Singing was not new to Tamia, she begun singing in church at the age of 6 and by the age of 10 she enrolled on a vocal lesson in their hometown. While growing up listening to Whitney Houston sing, at first she only aspired to be a coach. But on a recent trip to Los Angeles caught her the attention of super producer Quincy Jones on 1994.
At the age of 19, she recorded vocals with Quincy Jones' song "You Put A Move On My Heart" for the latter's album Q's Jook Joint. Later, the song was nominated for a Grammy Award and later that year more singing opportunities rose after where she earned three more Grammy Nominations. Until on 1998, she released her self-titled album Tamia.
