About
Tionne "T-Boz" Watkins, rapper Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes, and Rozonda "Chilli" Thomas are the members of the group named TLC. In 1991, TLC was born in Atlanta GA, when they met Thomas a producer who became the group's manager. They signed with the LaFace in 1992 and released their debut album, Ooooooohhh...On the TLC Tip. The single "Ain't 2 Proud 2 Beg" caught the attention of the public when Lopes wore a condom over her left eye to promote safe sex. The track earned their way to the top ten hit including "Baby-Baby-Baby" and "What About Your Friends".
In 1994, Lisa Lopes was arrested for alcohol fueled fit of rage after her relationsop with NFL's Andre Rison. Frustrated and angry Lopes burned his Atlanta mansion and vandalized his cars. Fortunately, she was only given five years probation. She admitted herself to an alcohol rahab program later on. The trial didn'ts affect the release of their second album CrazySexyCool. In fact, it becam a huge success. They also changed their image into a more mature level.
In 1995, TLC filed for bankruptcy. They had debts over 3.5 million dollars. They claimed that they didn't have a proper cut of royalties from CrazySexyCool. They split from LaFace and their manager Pebbles. Watkins was also battling sickle cell anemia which affected their performance. In 1996, TLC spent their time keeping their financial affairs back on track. In 1998, Lopes announced that she would start working on a solo album. Lopes also appeared in the Hype Williams directed Belly. The delays made the public eye assume that the group broke up.
Finally in 1999, they released their third album, Fanmail. With all the fame and fortune the threo had an arguement that Lopes was putting herself first and continued to promote her solo album. In 2001, the the group managed to work together once again. They started working on their new album. Lopes postponed her wedding with Andre Rison. Her solo album, Supernova, was not released domestically but it was sold in other countries. Artista Records pulled the plug on her. A new record label, The Row would release her debut album under the name N.I.N.A. (New Identity Non-Applicable). On April 25, 2002, Lopes died in a car accident but the remaining members, Thomas and Watkins, had intentions of finishing the album despite of their loss.
