Syleena Johnson is an American Grammy nominated female R&B singer and songwriter from Harvey, Illinois. Aside from being a music artist she is modelling plus-size for Wilhelmina modeling agency.

Biography
Syleena Johnson was born on September 2, 1976 in Harvey Illinois. At a young age, she turned to music early watching her early music influence such as Aretha Franklin, Tina Turner and Al Green. Later, she would apply what she got from watching her influences by attending her high school gospel choir.
Her father, Syl Johnson who is an R&B singer did not encouraged her daughter to go into music since his lackluster success made him think otherwise. She suffered vocal nodules and needs to through regular speech therapy. So her journey to music was hardly at ease. Much more, at 15, her parents split up but she remained strong with her relationship to her parents. Eventually she contributed to her father's album on 1994 for "Back in the Game"
She took up psychology major at Drake University and thinking that her strength had always been in music, she shifted to major in music and transferred to Illinois State University. On 1997, there she met a talent scout for Jive Records which she gave a demo copy of her recordings that created great impact. That year she signed a deal with Jive where in the present she released four albums for the record company.
