[edit] About
The band's name, Switchfoot came from an actual surfing term that means to literally switch from foot to the other to maintain their balance on the opposite direction while on the surfboard. The band loves surfing so much, hence the name that they chose.
Switchfoot recorded their first LP in 1997 entitled, The Legend Of Chin, signing on with Charlie Peacock's re:think Records, a division of Sparrow Records. Other albums that they released under this label where, New Way To Be Human two years later and Learning To Breathe in 2000. Their sopomore record garnered them a 1999 Dove Award for Song Of The Year for their title track.
Learning To Breathe was their stepping stone into mainstream rock. Its success would be significant with the soundtrack of the movie A Walk To Remember' in 2002. The band finally got a major label to produce their upcoming albums. They were signed in under Columbia Records.
The band continued to release more albums such as Beautiful Letdown in 2003, Nothing Is Sound in 2005, and their lastest Oh! Gravity which is set to be released in December 26th 2006. Their 2003 album proved to be a hit after joining in to the mainstream music scene. The album went Double Platinum with the help of their singles, Dare You To Move and Meant To Live. Nothing Is Sound was also a hit, making it to the first Top 10 on the 200 album charts. Although the band was best known to be a Chirstian Rock group, Switchfoot still managed to maintain their powerful writing in their lyrics and profound style of music and hitting it big in the music majority.
The band announced in their official MySpace that their latest album entitled, Oh! Gravity is done. It is set to be released in December 26, 2006.
The first single of the album will also be the same name as the album name, due out in October 31st 2006. But you can listen to it in the bands official website.
