[edit] Formation

Sunny_Day_Real_Estate was formed on 1992. Their original band name was supposedly Empty Set that consisted of a trio - Dan Hoerner (guitar, vocals), Nate Mendel (bass), and William Goldsmith (drums). After releasing a demo tape, they changed their name to Chewbacca Kaboom, upon knowing that a band named Empty Set has already been in existence.

With its band name, the demo tape was not successful, so they decided once more to change their name to “One Day I Stopped Breathing.” By this time, Mendel took a break and toured with another band so Hoemer took over the bass and a new member emerged in the name of Jeremy Enigk. Not so long, he immediately became the leading front man of the group. As Hoemer’s vocal is rough compared to his high pitched vocals that added depth to the songs.

When Mendel came back, they finally decided to put a stand and the final name was conceptualized as Sunny Day Real Estate. With the new name, they release several promos and singles such as that of Flatland Spider and Thief Steal Me a Peach in 1993.

[edit] Albums

The band’s debut album was entitled “Diary” released by Sub Pop on 1994. It gained positive reviews and as a result they toured extensively in US with Shudder to Think and Soul Coughing in support of the album. After this tour, they regrouped to record their second album – LP2 also know as their self titled album, Sunny Real Estate. While recording, there was clear conflict among members one of the rumored reasons was the conversion of Enigk to Christianity. By early 1995, they disbanded with Goldsmith and Mendel leaving to join Foo Fighters. By late 1995, the album was released.

They continued with their solo careers until 1997 they had come to be reunited once again releasing their third album on September 1998 entitled How It Feels to Be Something On. On this album, Jeff Palmer replaced Mendel and fans were amazingly grateful to hear a more mature sound. On 2000, they were now joined by Hüsker Dü sound engineer Lou Giordano to record The Rising Tide, released in June. And it was released with Time Bomb Records, their new record label.
