Stone Temple Pilots are one the most successful band internationally. They are also an award winning Band. Their albums have sold 17 million copies in the US alone. They have 15 top 10 singles on the Billboard Rock Charts. One of which is their hit single, "Plush".

About

Stone Temple Pilots started when "Scott Weiland" met "Robert De Leo". Bought of them are courting the same girl, when that girl left their town, the two moved into her vacated apartment. After that, Scott and Robert formed a band called, Mighty Joe Young. "Eric Kretz" joined the band. They also recruited, "Dean De Leo", Robert's brother. When the band was recording their single, they received a call from their lawyer telling them that there is already a band who owned the name their using. They changed their name to "Shirley Temple's Perry" and became "Stone Temple Pirots". Finally, in 1990, they were officially named Stone Temple Pilots.


The band signed a recording contract under Atlantic Records in 1992. Their debut album, Core was released that year. It features hit singles, "Sex Type Thing", "Plush" and "Creep".


The band was simultaneously voted Best New Band by Rolling Stones readers in 1994. They also won Favorite Pop/Rock New Artist and Heavy Metal Hard Rock New Artist at the American Music Awards. Their single, "Plush" won Best Hard Rock Performance for Grammy Awards.


Their second studio album, Purple was released on 1994 and debuted at #1 on the US Charts. It also features their hit single, "Interstate Love Song" which spent 15 weeks on top of the Album Rocks Chart. Other featured hit singles are, "Vasoline" and "Big Empty". The album has sold 3 million copies, four months after it is released. They became one of the successful bands in the US and around the world.


1995, was not a good year for them. There recording session had to be scrapped in February and May. Scott was arrested for possession of heroin. The group decided to split up. However, on October of that same year, the band was reformed with Scott to start recording their third album.


They released their third album, Tiny Music... Songs from the Vatican Gift Shop in April 1996, and debuted at #4 on the US Charts. However, Scott's drug addiction became a serious problem to the band's success. He was ordered by the judge to spend six months under rehabilitation. He completed a drug treatment for five months.


In September 1999, Scott has released his solo album, 12 Bar Blues. The other members of the band formed a band called Talk Show with Dave Coults. The band reunited in 1999, releasing their fourth album, No. 4. It features their hit single, "Soul Girl". The band released their fifth album, Shangri-La Dee Da on 2001, which also features their hit single, "Days of The Week". After the fall of 2002, the group agreed to split up.
