About

A lot of aspiring young artists today join competitions for them to gain a spot in the music industry. Still many others attend numerous auditions for them to be able to become a star. That is what many teenagers dream of right now. But Stacie Orrico was barely a teenager when she first entered the music industry, she was 12! What's more, she didn't line up for audition nor did she find a career, her career found her!

Born in March 3, 1986 in Seattle, Washington, this pretty face is one of five children of Italian-American parents. Her father, a Christian missionary and always listened to jazz music, influenced the Stacie Orrico we see right now, not only as a Christian but as a singer as well. As a child, she sang in the gospel choir where most of the church members noticed that she had a lovely voice and superb soul.

A seminar in Estes Park in 1998 landed her in the music industry, where she received the top honor for the vocalist category in the said event. She was then signed to Christian label, Forefront Records.

Her debut album came in Year 2000, where young Stacie co-wrote some songs, and it was entitled "Genuine". It was generally an album containing Christian Pop with some urban music. The album entered Billboard Heatseekers chart at #1 and sold around 500,000 units. The debut album was indeed a success. A follow-up holiday EP, also from the same label, was entitled "A Christmas Wish". After her two successful recordings, Stacie was noticed by all-women trio Destiny's Child to tour with them in the US Survivor tour. During that tour, Stacie said that she learned a lot from the trio. She also admires them for being so popular yet humble to take some time chatting with their fans. Stacie is not far from that though. She is a humble person, with a single, honest goal, and that is to influence the people by means of her music.

Three years after dominating the US with her soulful music and vibrant vocal power, Stacie Orrico releases a more matured self titled album under Virgin Records Stacie Orrico (album) with the carrier single "Stuck" and equally popular hit "More To Life". It showed a new Stacie, with an R&B touch and contributions from several artists. She also wrote brave and frank lyrics regarding issues that may concern teenagers, after all, she was one too. The album made it big across the globe, and all over Asia so Stacie went around for her fans. For a young star, facing the camera almost every hour of the day, sleeping less than 8 hours per night and missing her family's special occasions, were not at all healthy.

Some young stars of her age won't mind, but not a family-oriented Christian girl like Stacie. The noise of a popular career overwhelmed her. She realizes thereafter that she needs a fallback, a life outside the music scene, and more time with her family and friends.

By the time she was quiet and made no single, no albums, no EPs, she was enjoying the simple, serene life with her family in Seattle. She did what normal teenagers would do at their age. Get a regular job, get an average pay, have fun with her siblings and hang out with her friends. This period made Stacie an even more collected individual, wherein she was able to build a ground of emotional supporters and finally thought of going back to the music industry.

At present, Stacie Orrico breathes back to life with her new album "Beautiful Awakening" where we can expect the maturity, and the calmness that Stacie once offered us. Much more, the tracks in the album relates to several groups of people including the family as a whole, single moms and those who are in and out of love.

Wherever Stacie is right now is not purely luck or fate, she has the talent, and more essentially, the maturity needed for a performer.

Reviews

Stacie Orrico caught my attention with her single "More To Life", I did not know that she was a Christian singer. Learning that made me admire her more, with that background, she sings songs with deep lyrics without neglecting the favorable tune and high pitch. She is not just a singer, she is an influence. Her writing does not only market her songs but also awakens people of the real issues, inspires and comfort those who are afflicted. -- vheliefish
