Sponge was formed in 1991 by "Vinnie Dombroski", "Mike Cross" and "Joey Mazzola", they are all former members of the band, Loudhouse. The group added "Tim Cross", Mike's brother in the line-up and "Jimmy Paluzzi". In 1993, they signed a recording contract under Sony Records. Their debut album, Rotting Piñata was released in 1994. It features the hit singles, "Molly" which landed at #3 on US Modern Rock and #11 on US Mainstream Rock Singles Chart, "Plowed" which chartered at #5 on US Modern Rock Singles Chart and #9 on US Mainstream Rock Singles Chart and "Rainin'" which reached #34 on The Us Modern Rock Singles Chart and #18 on US Mainstream Rock Singles Chart.
Their next album, Wax Ecstatic was issued in 1996. The album spawned the hit single, "Wax Ecstatic That same year, Jimmy left the group and was replaced by, "Charlie Grover". In 1999, their album, New Pop Sunday was released under Beyond Records. Mike, Tim and Charlie left the group in 2000 and was replaced by, "Billy Adams" on drums, "Kurt Marschke" and "Tim Krukowski". For All the Drugs in the World was released in 2003 under Idol Records. This time around, Vinnie was the only founding members who still stayed in the group. He created a new line-up again. In 2005, their album, New Man was released. Their latest album, Galore Galore was released in 2007.
