Soulja Boy (born DeAndre Cortez Way on July 28, 1990 in Chicago, Illinois) is an American rapper best known for his snap-dance hit single, Crank Dat (Soulja Boy).

Together with his mother and a little brother, Soulja Boy started to move places and dwell in Atlanta at the age of six, due to his parents' separation. There, they lived a very poor life. Until he met the rapper Young Kwon and introduced him to the world of music.
Kwon taught Soulja how to make beats and even recorded his first song which Soulja considered a priceless experience.
But still financial shortage continue to arise, while at eight grade in Batesville South Panola High School, his father took Soulja with him to Mississippi.
Thinking that he had missed the opportunity of becoming a musician in Atlanta, Soulja attempted placing a video clip of him on the internet. Together with Arab, they started putting up a hip-hop duo called 30/30 Boys managed by Michael Sykes (a.k.a. Miami Mike).
The attempt became successful which drove Soulja to create his own website, www.souljaboytellem.com to push his name further.
Already gaining success on the internet, Soulja moved back to Atlanta in 2004 to seriously pursue a musical career.
There, he met Derrick Crooms (who's behind the successes of Ying Yang Twins, Bubba Sparxxx and Young Jeezy) and became his manager.
Through him, Soulja experienced his first live gig at a teen nightclub in Indianapolis, Indiana.
That performance became his gatepass to signing Interscope Records (through Collipark Music Imprint).
Then on, Soulja has been releasing several mixtapes including Soulja Boy 2005, Soulja Boy 2006, Dem 30/30 Boyz and even managed to produce his own music label, Stacks on Deck Entertainment.
In 2007, Soulja Boy gradually rose to number one on the pop chart with his single Crank Dat (Soulja Boy), followed by an album released in the same year called souljaboytellem.com.
