Social Distortion is a popular Alternative Rock band who rose to fame via their hit single, "Mainliner/Playpen".

Social Distortion was formed in 1978 at California by, "Mike Ness" with "Casey Royer" on drums, and "Rick and Frank Agnew". Mike met "Dennis Danell" and recruited him on the band. When Dennis joined the band, Frank, Rick and Casey left the group to formed their own band. Mike and Dennis stayed with the band.
In 1981, their first single, "Mainliner/Playpen" was issued in 1981 under Posh Boy Records. Their debut album, Mommy's Little Monster was released on 1983 under 13th Floor Records. It features the singles, "Another State of Mind" and "Telling Them".
The band briefly went on hiatus in 1985. During this time, Mike was in and out of rehabilitation centers as well as serving short stints in various jails. They came band in 1988 with the released of their second album, Prison Bound.
Their self-titled studio album was issued on March 1990. The album features the singles, "Ball and Chain" which chartered at #13 on US Mainstream Rock Charts and "Ring of Fire" which landed at #25 on US Mainstream Rock Charts and "Drug Train". In 2006, the album was ranked as the 1st highest rated punk albums of 1990 on Sputnikmusic.
In September 1996, their next album, White Light, White Heat, White Trash was released under Epic Records. It debuted at #27 on Billboard 200 Albums Chart. The album features the singles, "I Was Wrong" which landed at #4 on US Mainstream Rock Charts.
Their next album, Sex, Love and Rock 'n' Roll was released on September 28, 2004 under Time Bomb Recordings. The group is currently recording their next album which will be released in 2009.
