Skin Yard was formed in 1985 at Seattle, Washinton by "Daniel House" and "Jack Endino". They recruited "Ben McMillan" and "Matt Cameron" on the band. The band was featured in the compilation album of Deep Six in 1986. In that same year they released their self-titled debut album.


Their next album, Fist Sized Chunks was released in 1990 under Cruz Records. In that same year, "Barrett Martin" joins the group. In 1991, their album, 1000 Smiling Knuckles was released under Cruz Records. In that yaear, Barrett left the band and was replaced by "Pat Pedersen". After the released they took a long break up from lightlight and cameback in 2001 to released their next album, Start at The Top under C/Z Records.
