About

Sixpence None The Richer got its name from a passage in C.S. Lewis' Mere Christianity. They formed in New Braunfels, Texas. In 1990's, Matt Slocum (Guitarist/songwriter) met Leigh Bingham Nash (vocalist) and started recording demos together. The demos evolved into an album called The Fatherless and The Widow. They added drummer Tess Wiley, guitarist Tess Wiley and bassist Plasencio. In 1995 they released an album called This Beautiful Mess.

In 1997, the band released a self-titled album under Squint Entertainment. In 1999, the single "Kiss Me" made them an overnight sensation. The song was included in the soundtrack of the movie She's All That and Not Another Teen Movie. In 2000, the band had another hit single, "There She Goes" which was added into their Sixpence None The Richer (album).

Squint Entertainment was hanging by a thread making the band postpone their up comming album. Word Records bought Squint Entertainment and in 2002, their long awaited follow up album, Divine Discontent, was finally released. They had a lot of songs cut from the original album such as "Us", "Deeper", "Don't Pass Me By", "Too Far Gone" and "Loser Like Me".

On 2004, Matt Slocum announced that the band separated. Slocum started a new band called, The Astronaut Pushers. Leigh Nash pursued a solo career and her first solo album, Blue on Blue.
