About
Simon's church experiences during childhood played as a major influence on his musical journey. By bringing him to church four times a week by his mother, he developed the passion for gospel songs. He even grew up listening to soulful sounds of Bill Withers, Bob Marley and various gospel singers.
At the age of eight, it was set in his mind that he wanted to be an entertainer. In school, he took part in many productions as a young actor and even winning the lead in several performances.
However, as he grew into his early teens he developed the love for football. He spent every spare second practicing and sharpened his skills to become a professional footballer someday. He was even undergone training at Port Vale School of Excellence to further enhance his playing skills.
But his dream of becoming a professional football player was ripped, when he suffered a torn ligament (at 17) during a match. The injury has prevented him from playing football again.
After the incident, he decided to turn back to being an entertainer. He began auditioning as a singer and a rapper for various bands and music projects.
In 1998 (at 19), Simon was spotted by a model scout and joined him for the prestigious Pride Magazine's Face of the Year competition. Because of his looks and unique features, Simon won the competition to together with a modeling contract.
After winning the competition, numerous offers had come Simon's way but his love of becoming a singer and a songwriter reigned supreme. He continued doing auditions that led him to meeting future bandmates Duncan James, Lee Ryan and Anthony Costa. Then came the birth of Blue and an incredible rollercoaster of success began.
Blue has released several hit albums from four years of being together, including All Rise, One Love and Guilty. And Simon was the key songwriters on many of Blue's biggest hits including All Rise, Fly By and One Love and even more tracks on their succeeding two albums.
Though successful, Blue's time line was limited, the four lads decided to split in 2005 to pursue their individual musical careers.
In August of the same year, Simon launched himself as a solo artist with his first solo single, Lay Your Hands. Peaked at #4 on the UK Singles Chart and remained in the Top 10 for an amazing three weeks. Followed by the infectious single, No Worries, which also peaked at #4 in the UK chart.
After releasing two successful singles, Simon finally released his much-awaited debut solo album, Sanctuary on November 14, 2005. Debuted at #28 on the UK Album Charts and eventually reached #7 on the charts and has gone double platinum.
His second album, Grace followed next on November 13, 2006 but the album failed to secure a place in the UK Top Ten though peaked at #11. Other singles from the album are Coming Around Again (released on October 30, 2006), My Soul Pleads For You (released on February 19, 2007) and Seventeen.
Aside from being a performer and a songwriter, Simon also owns a modeling agency named Industry People and runs a production company; UK Team bound for developing UK urban artists.
Simon also appeared in the movies, The Truth About Love (2004) opposite Jennifer Love Hewitt, Rolling with the Nines alongside Jason Statham, Vas Blackwood and Billy Murray and the upcoming Run with the acclaimed New Zealand actor/performer Karl Urban.
