About

Shawn Colvin was born on January 10, 1956 at Vermillion, South Dakota. When she was young, she and her family moved to London, Ontario and again moved to Carbondale, Illinois. When she was ten years old, she learned how to play guitar. She studied at Southern Illinois University where she held her first public concert. Shawn formed her own band called Shawn Colvin Band. Shawn transferred in Austin, Texas and became a member of a band, Dixie Diesels.

In 1983, Shawn moved in New York City to pursue her dream to be a recording artist. She performed at some clubs where she built a small follower. She also appeared in some Broadway shows like Pump Boys and Dinettes, Diamond Studs and Lie of The Mind.

In 1987, she was a singing backup of Suzanne Vega's hit album, Luka. In 1988, Shawn a recording contract under Columbia Records. She released her first album, Steady On in 1989 which won a Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Folk Recording. Her next album, Fat City was released in 1992. Her album, Cover Girl that was released in 1994 was a minor hit.

In 1996, she released her next album, A Few Small Repairs. She also had a duet with Tony Bennett for the movie soundtrack of It Could Happen To You. She also appeared in the movie Grace of My Heart. Her album, A Few Small Repairs was her biggest hit album. Her album won a Grammy Awards for Record of The Year. The single, "Sunny Came Home" reached the Billboard Charts. Her latest album, These Four Walls was released on September 12, 2006.
