[edit] About

With her albums all certified either gold or multi-platinum, Sarah Mclachlan has proven time and again that she has conquered not just the Canadian fans but the people all over the world as well.

Sarah was born on January 28, 1968. As a child, she took voice, classical piano, and guitar lessons, and then went to the Nova Scotia School of Design. She had a band then, called October Game, and from their performances, she was offered to go solo by Nettwerk Records.

In 1988, she released her first album called Touch, and because of its monumental success in Canada, she was signed to Arista for international distribution. 1991's Solace came next, which also turned platinum just like the previous album.

It took her another three years to come up with her third record, Fumbling Towards Ecstasy, a triple-platinum. This album was written just after her travel to Cambodia and Thailand for a Canadian-sponsored documentary about poverty and child prostitution, and contains tracks such as "Possession" and "Good Enough." Alternate versions of the songs in this record were released through The Freedom Sessions, which turned gold.

Then came her biggest album since her debut, Surfacing, containing the tracks that won her two Grammy Awards in 1998 - "Building a Mystery" and "Last Dance." Her fifth album Mirrorball, on the other hand, included "I Will Remember You," a song that again gave her another Grammy for Best Female Pop Vocal.

In 2003, Afterglow was released, not without its share of more nominations. She then went on tours to New Zealand, Australia, US, and Canada, concluding her Afterglow tour in June 2005 with a performance in Vancouver, Sarah's hometown.
